Every Places Remembered canvas print begins with a genuine vintage color photograph.

Some capture famous landmarks. Others preserve forgotten streets, historic transport, seaside resorts, castles, villages, theme parks, and everyday places that have become part of people’s memories.

Our goal is simple: to celebrate these authentic moments from the past by transforming carefully selected photographs into beautiful wall art for today’s homes, offices, hotels, restaurants, cafés, and other interiors.

Our Archive

Our archive contains more than 15,000 original vintage slides and negatives from over 20 countries, with thousands more still waiting to be restored.

Much of our collection comes from my grandfather, who spent decades photographing cities, railways, landmarks and everyday life throughout the world during the 1950s, 60s and 70s. My parents continued the tradition, and over the years we’ve added carefully acquired collections from other photographers and estates.

Every image is scanned directly from the original film, helping us retain the authentic colors, detail, and atmosphere captured by the original photographer.

Rather than publishing everything in our archive, we carefully curate our collection, selecting only those photographs that combine historical interest with genuine decorative appeal.

Every Photograph Is Treated Individually

No two photographs are the same, so we do not believe every image should receive the same treatment.

Some photographs retain a beautifully restored photographic appearance. Others are enhanced with an oil-painting-inspired finish, giving them a timeless artistic quality while remaining faithful to the original scene.

Every photograph captures a real place exactly as someone once experienced it. Many of the buildings, stores, attractions and streets shown have since disappeared, making each print a genuine window into the past.

Carefully Enhanced, Never Rewritten

Preparing each image involves far more than simply scanning an old photograph.

Depending on the individual image, we may remove dust and scratches, restore faded colors, improve clarity, refine contrast, or replace a dull sky to better suit the finished artwork.

We also use carefully controlled digital photo editors and/or AI-assisted enhancement where it genuinely improves the final image.

What we do not do is invent history or create fake AI images. We do not add buildings that were never there, remove important historical features, or change the character of the original scene simply to make it more attractive.

Technology is a tool, not a substitute for authenticity.

Every photograph published by Places Remembered comes from our own archive, and we own the copyright to every image we sell.

We do not use public-domain collections, stock photography, or photographs copied from other websites.

That means every canvas print you purchase is part of a collection available exclusively through Places Remembered.

Every artwork is printed on premium canvas using archival inks before being hand-stretched over a solid wooden frame and arrives ready to hang.
