This rare panoramic view of downtown Flint, Michigan, shows the Memorial Day parade passing along South Saginaw Street in May 1946. The image has been carefully created from two original color images taken on the same day by the same photographer. We scanned them directly from the original Kodak color 35mm slides, then stitched them together to give a wide and unusually vivid look at postwar Flint. Everything seen in this photo has since been demolished.

Visible details include the Rialto Theatre at 308 S. Saginaw, with the Sunlin Building name above it, along with Blocks Jewelers, Dora’s Beauty Shop, Army Surplus, Betty Dress Shop, Fred’s, Kobacker’s, Jordan’s Credit Clothes and other long-vanished storefronts. The Rialto marquee advertises Raffles, first released in 1939, and A Lady Takes a Chance, released in 1943.

The Rialto first opened in 1909 as the Savoy Theatre, built by Louis Sunlin. After his death in 1935, it was sold and renamed the Rialto. It then became the Theater Royal in 1961, and was sold to Nathan Schwartz in 1965 and converted into an adult cinema. It was closed and demolished in 1973 to make way for the new 10-story Citizens Bank building.

The Kobacker building was located at 242 S Saginaw and was built in 1925. Kobackers moved out just three years after this photo was taken, and in the mid-1950s it was purchased by Ivan Macarthur and renamed the Macarthur Building, then the Commerce Building in 1967. It was demolished in September 1979.

Because of the uncommon shape of this print, we are only able to offer it in a choice of two different sizes.

Genuine Vintage Photographs, Enhanced for Modern Walls

Places Remembered transforms genuine vintage photographs into colorful canvas prints for modern walls. Every artwork begins with a real historic color photograph from our extensive archive, preserving the recognizable location, original composition, and nostalgic atmosphere of the original scene. Many historic photographs have wonderful subject matter, atmosphere, and period detail, but were never intended as decorative wall art. At Places Remembered, we carefully enhance and reinterpret these images so they retain the authenticity of the original photograph while gaining the color, clarity, and visual impact needed to look beautiful on a modern wall.

Some images are reimagined with bold color and an oil-painting-inspired painterly finish, while others stay closer to the original photographic finish, with enhanced color, clarity, and detail. We don’t create fictional AI images or invent places that never existed. The original scene remains at the heart of every print, because we believe history should be respected, not rewritten. Instead, each piece is thoughtfully prepared to preserve its real character while giving it a fresh, vibrant look for homes, offices, hospitality spaces, and commercial interiors.

Please note that although some of our images may show the appearance of brushstrokes, oil-painting texture, or raised detail, the artwork is printed flat onto the canvas.

Premium Ready-to-Hang Canvas Prints

Our images are printed on matte, non-reflective textured canvas with a premium coating designed to produce rich color, sharp detail, and a high-quality finish. Each print is made using UL Certified non-toxic inks and hand stretched around a 3/4″ (2cm) thick pine frame sourced from renewable forests. Instead of plain canvas sides, the artwork is softly mirrored around the edges so the image continues naturally when viewed from the side. This gives the print a more finished, gallery-style look without needing an additional frame.

Each canvas print is supplied with a sawtooth bracket installed on the back, so it is ready to hang straight from the box.
